Andas mer means "breathe more" in Swedish and is a reminder to live a more mindful and curated life. Andas Mer rugs are handwoven in Minnesota with reclaimed materials from the local cut and sew industry. Scandinavian traditions influence the weaving techniques used to create modern designs for the contemporary home.
SARA OKERN - Artist | Designer | Weaver
Sara Okern is a lifelong maker with a passion for textiles. She grew up in a small town in central Minnesota that was founded by Scandinavian immigrants, but it was only after leaving her rural hometown that she realized how much she was influenced by her ancestry. This led her to explore her cultural roots through various folk handicrafts including decorative painting, baking, and weaving. In 2016, she began to bring a “Minnesota Modern” twist to the aesthetics of traditional Scandinavian rag rug weaving and Andas Mer was born.
Sara now makes her home in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro, and when not in the Andas Mer studio, she can be found enjoying the many lakes, trails, and diverse seasons of the area.
